Barcelona and Local Information

Catalunya

... with its triangle of varied landscape between the French border, Aragn and the Mediterranean, covers approximately 32,000 km. The population amounts to six million people, giving a density of around 188 inhabitants per km. Catalunya is one of the 17 autonomous communities of Spain and has its own governing body, the Generalitat de Catalunya. Although fertile (cereals, wines, olives, etc...), Catalunya is primarily an industrial region with its main activities centered around Barcelona. However, tourism has an important impact on the economy of Catalunya. Its distinct culture and herritage are attracting millions of tourists each year.

Barcelona

Barcelona is the historical capital of Catalunya and Spain's second leading city in both size and importance. Its port is one of the most important on the Mediterranean Sea. More than just a single city, Barcelona is really a collection of multi-faceted and diverse cities. The visitor unfamiliar with its history might be surprised that such a modern and enterprising city preserves its historic Gothic center almost intact, or by the curious contrast between the maze of narrow streets and the Ramblas, great boulevards filled with street musicians, artists, and cafs.
